Congratulations Brian on your 1st Place in Utah, we have seen your pumpkin on T-V quite a bit and I think it is a big thing,(no pun intended) Knowing how hard it is to grow a large pumpkin in Idaho. Good Luck next year and maybe I can give you a little competition. ( I still think you are shooting it up with hormones. LOL ) H-K-J

Hi Brian, we are practicaly neighbors! If your in Idaho whats up with the Utah weigh off? I am working with some GREAT growers in the Spokane, and Moses Lake area trying to set up a Monster weigh off east of the Cascades 100+ growers. Some of our weights here are hitting around 900#...

100 growers equals a lot of pumpkins. That would be interesting. Both Rexburg and Blackfoot are in the southern part of the state (only 3 1/2 hours from Utah). Its probably an eight hour drive to your neck of the woods. But with that many growers it would be enticing. From what I've seen there is not much interest in this state for growing pumpkins. As far I can tell there are only 4-5 growers in the entire state and most of us are relatively new comers. The Utah weighoff has been going for about 10 years (3 years in its current location) There were 38 pumpkins entered this year. Its sponsored by Thanksgiving Point which is a combination of garden center, museum, golf course and family attraction center.

Brian eight hours is tough it's "only" six hours from me to Canby Ore. Still you guys in the 'Famouse Potatoe State" have some big pumpkins! Maybe we could set something up in CourD'Alene Id.? Most growers I mentioned are in the Spokane area, with a few in the Wenanchee, Elensburg, Moses lake area which put them about 3 hours or so from CourD'Alene. I think most growers are like me and can't afford to drive to far and still have a pumpkin/home life. That means a lot of huge pumpkins go unweighed every year.
Kick it around this winter. God Bless, Gadberry
