This is my 824 Eaton set at 18 feet on 7-10.
I've seen plenty of leaky stems. I've seen leaks close to the stem. But I don't ever recall seeing leaks this far away from the stem.....in a radial patern about 6 inches away.
Note also the diamond haped "stretch marks" that are the source of the ooze.

I still have a secondary vine fruit (almost the same rate of growth) on this plant that would already be gone were it not for this. It has no such leaks at all. I'd like to start severing the secondary slowly (I'd like the seeds) but am wondering if I should take this one off instead.
Are these small leaks reason for concern?
TIA,
Steve

Perhaps the wider view would help. The ribs on this fruit are the question.

I've had that happen before steve and never had a problem. They have always scarred over. I think it's caused by rapid growth.

In response to a private email & to clarify the image:
The amber look to the sap is curious. When it first comes out it is the classic greenish clear exudate we would expect. I believe the organic chelating agent in my Calcium is causing the sap to turn color.

Steve, No really, this is what i would do and you are probably already doing it, But i would stop that calcium mix for a week or so and see what happens, also I would paste the captans on it , then sulfer. But I know you prolly already done that, so my questions is this,, why am i wasting my time typing something to you that u already know?,he he Brooks

Out of curiosity, Steve, is this the one you heard growing? When you mentioned that in another post, My suspicion was that you were hearing the *pop* of tiny cracks due to rapid growth. I guess that's how they put on weight (cracking, healing, cracking, healing), so maybe this is just the sign of aggressive growth on the inside, with unmatched growth on the skin?
Just thinking out loud.

Actually No. The noisy grower is the smoother fruit on the secondary. The pictured fruit looks almost too mature for it's age. It has that "brain" looking thing going on & deeper more pronounced ribs.
The noisey secondary fruit is more typical in that it is smoother with very little ribbing yet even though it is 2 days older & 6 inches bigger (C).
Perhaps that noise I heard was internal cracking of the secondary. One more good reason to want to keep the main set seen in the picture.
big sigh

I wouldn't worry Steve she's just a rapid grower.
Re-examine your fert & water schedule & evaluate if you are pushing too hard. If all looks good keep it up.

Thanks for all the input.
The main set fruit decided to pack on another 5" C today as opposed to the secondary fruit that only gained 3". This has been the trend of late according to the daily tapes.
So the secondary vine will be seperated from the main in thirds so we can still harvest the seeds (842 Eaton x self)& a respectable Halloween carver without impacting the main fruit too badly.
Thanks again,
Steve
