What is the most extreme or crazy thing you've ever done to get a bigger pumpkin?

I do think I recall a certain grower who buried a dead pig under the plant to nourish it!

4X application of Giberellic acid for cool weather growth. It worked too. 55 foot main by mid-July & all male flowers for 5 weeks. Not a smashing success unless there's a wiegh-off for vines that I don't know about.
Injected 2,4-D with a hypodermic needle. Fruit aborted & the vine grew like mad.
Injected GA3 with a hypodermic needle into the main just before the stem. No apparent change in fruit until I collected the seeds. Some were as large as Walnuts but not developed. Those that were developed were unusually thick & grow just fine.
This year it's absisic acid directly to the female to induce artificial pollination with the goal being a parthenocarpic fruit.
I wouldn't recommend any of these idiotic experiments on "the chosen one".

"Breaking off your main vine for fun" - something I couldn´t find in the BP.com "toon section" but surely it´s worth a try...
