Aeration, seams to me as the soil becomes compacted in lat July that a little root opening might be beneficial. Works on golf courses. It could help to produce better aerobic soil activity. Anyone have comments on this topic?

Our roots are too extensive to chance ripping them all to shreds trying to open compacted soil now. My gut tells me that any benefit obtained by releiving compaction now, will be more than offset by a ticked off AG that stops growing due to a loss of root system.

The key is to prepare soils in the off-season so compaction cannot happen. High organic material soils rarely compact in-season. Likewise, Calcine clay particles can be used to keep sticky clays open enough for good aeration all season long. And unlike organic amendments, these are not consumed by microbes & earthworms by seasons end.
