You also need some sun,water,insect and disease control! I think a 200#er is possible through neglect.

We sometimes give ourselves too much credit for our input & too much input for our plants benefit. People who provide little care have been known to get lucky. But then luck is what we make of it. Kind of an oxymoron of sorts.

Sometimes we tend to "love our plants to death" overdoing fert and water or insecticides can cause more harm than good.

Still, burying and pruning vines, culling fruit, ect. is necessary to get anything over 200#.

At my test field last year with very little care, rampant disease and insects, terrible heat one pumpkin grew to about 400 pounds and a few around the 350 pound mark. Plants had decent soil and water...... Ben

last year i grew 1 pumpkin. i let it grow in the garden which became nothing but weeds. Never fertilized ,fungisided or pesticided. got a 413 EST.
Oh didnt water either..
