We have small darker spots on our pumpkin. Could they be bruises? Will the pumpkin survive? Our pumpkin vine has not grown in 3 or 4 days. We are have several new splits that are drying. What could cause this? Thanks in advance. Good luck everyone.

It doesn't sound good. I'm going out on a limb, but I'm guessing it may be black rot. This disease can be helped along by a rough growing season such as hail damage or mishandling. (I'm hoping that my diagnosis is incorrect!)

Kilr, what is blackrot? No hail but if this diagnosis is correct perhaps not mishandling but probably rough handling and lack of knowledge on how to handle the pumpkin. Will these small dark spots harden as the pumpkin hardens? I do not want to touch these spots to see if they are soft. They may be a little too small for me to tell anyway. Thanks.

Look at page 101 in HTGGP Vol. 2 for a picture of an advanced case.
