Hi...I'm running about 2-3 weeks behind most of you and was wondering what was a good average for size for the age of the pumpkin. I have one fruit that is 7 days old with a 20" cicumferance. Does that sound about right? Anyone else have similar aged fruit...could you post your measurements?
Thanks!

Mine measured 30" circumfrence on day 10. 54" on day 15.
69" on day 20. 82" on day 25. This is almost the same as last year when the pumpkin went 600lbs.

this time of year there are hundreds of pumpkins at 100 to 120 inches that will never see a weighoff for one reason or another --- yet there are 70 inchers out there that will compete for top awards
the first 600 or so lbs is the easiest
its the additional 400 plus thats the trick
a decient ag polinated early july should weigh in around 300 lbs at months end, then put an additional 5 to 600 on in august and if its a good one another 250 to 300 lbs in sept

every year we hear of these monsters early...I had a couple over the last few years.....hmmmm.....didn't make any weogh-offs....the good steady growering pumpkins always seem to make it........hit the 10-20-30 day marks for your region and you can tell if you really have a great one..high heat can give some very great growth early and then come to a sudden stop......its not a 100m dash......its the Boston Marathon.....hope everyone gets a new personal best..thats the goal, all the rest is just extra.....I'd better get out and give mine a kick......:0

Pap,

I heard of a 400-500#er in the Ohio Valley last week! (It was an early bloomer!) See you in Ohio!

Well said Wayne. Mine are starting to pop some good numbers the past few days. The key is to keep it growing by reducing stress and keeping the moisture levels consistant. I am getting nervous now more than ever as you never know what can happen.

Hmmm....I have one that'll break 300# by the end of the month. It's a late June pollination and is averaging 11-14# a day, slow and steady.
Maybe things are heading better than I expected?
