Just wondering what it is when everyone talks about pushing your pumpkin in late season. Is it watering it more, extreme pruning, ferts, ect. So what is it that you do. Just curious as to what other growers do to get the extra pounds on pumpkins in the later stages of there growing period. Todd

Its call the "Pistono Push" I am sure he will give you the recipe for making the grow or blow. Personnaly I like taking a pumpkin to the weigh-off.

Right about this time of year, many growers become despondent. Simply take your pumpkin to the top of a very steep hill, and "push"!

if you update your growth charts on a weekly basis you will find the growth chart will ramp up in early season, stay at a peek level for 2 to three weeks , then start to drop down

during this drop down period you dont push any harder than you did on the way up
its the natural life cycle of the fruit

we treat our plants pretty much the same on the way out as we did on the way in

excessive watering a dry plant and or excessive rain on a late dry plant could trigger a growth spurt that may split the fruit ( the skin is thick and hard by this time ) so for this reason keep the soil consistant along with your fertilizer program

Time to up on the K fertilizer maybe....to promote fruit growth.
I still don't know if I'll do it or what I would use.
I'm trying to stay away from chemical fertilizers if at all possible. If anyone knows a bio source of K could they please post it here?

Michel, check a local Raiffeisen dealer for Kalimagnesia or Thomaskali. Should be around 30% in K but also has a lot other ingredients (calcium, magnesium) good for the plant. I´m going to buy it today.
