Could someone please explain what sunburned leaves look like? I cannot seem to find any pictures etc. Do they wilt during the day under the hot sun and then recover 100% or is there permanent damage? Thanks.

whisky a true burnt leaf usually happens at the end of vines where new growth ( that has no root system developed ) is located
a hot sun can at times burn new growth however most burnt new growth comes from excess watering on the new growth then after the water is shut off the new leaf bakes from the hot water-----this type of burnt leaf will droop at the edges and will never recover at night ,however the rest of the leaf will develope but look like crap after a few weeks
if this situation exists around the base of the plant then its usually caused by old leaves, they tend to dry up and become brittle this is also normal and they should be cut off before the stems have a chance to bend and begin rotting
if the whole plant droops during days with high heat and recovers after the sun starts to set then you may just have a very heat sensitive plant
i hope this helps you d wallace ripga

HEY THANKS! I am a first time grower. I have exactly as you explained it. New growth, second or third leaf back from the end of the vine on a few of the secondaries. The weather had been wet most of this week, then yesterday and the day before that it has been sunny, hot, humid, 89 degrees. I have been reading Pumpkins II and looking at the pictures, I was scared to death that it was some type of serious infection! I have many hours invested in this project, the wife says too many! Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question and your willingness to share your knowledge and experience, I can sleep at night once again!

This is a picture of sunburn on some leaves. I was told by many great people here that this is what sunburn on the leaves looks like.

Yep, leaf burn. But I've gotten that look after burning with pesticides and then the sun cooking it in.
