On April's 834 Gadberry Her females form correctly, then open, they stand straight up like a male and have medium- long stems. Then you carefully pollinate them, cover them(because you thought something was breaking them off)Check them the next day and they are cracked in half. The plant seems to be extremely brittle. I have never seen anything like it. I simply touched one tonight to show her where it would be opening. Then ploop it popped off. Anyone else ever experienced this?

So you are saying she should go in with her eyes closed :)

I think that April is just too attractive and the pumpkin plant is jealous!

Our 834* all have VERY long stems and it took most of the females about 5 days to lay down, I never fiddle with them at this stage except to untie the blossem leafs after 3 days and then only in the heat of the day. Bummer I hope Good Girl has another that is ready to go, I have a big one I have to cull off of a seconday main tonight, I will try and get a picture of it posted.

try supporting the squash with styrofoam pieces, each day lower it slowly till it lands softly on the ground......I use pieces of styrofoam to re-position my fruit when they are not at a good angle to the vine....each day I place another small block between the pumpkin or squash and the vine, they turn very gradually this way and no snapping....I am sure if you blocked up this trouble-some fruit you can help it to survive....the next one that is....treat it the same way you would a fine lady ..LOL
