After culling 6 secondary vine fruit & 1 main vine this week, I hope you're right Eric. We still have 3 secondary fruit to remove, I just don't want to rip them all off at once.
I peaked in on my son's school's fruit today & nearly shi1. The freaking thing is huge! I'll get a tape on it tomorrow, but I suspect the 20 lb per day barrier was broken there 2-3 weeks ago.
Come on growth here at home!!!

After many 20# days last year it seems the Pumpkin God of Humility wants to teach me a lesson. I can't beg, buy or steal a 10# day!

I know Brooks is having some great gains on his Wentzell plant that he is growing, rangeing from 15-20 pounds per day over the last couple of weeks, from what I hear is its around the 215 lb mark already :-)

I had a 15# day and then the 95F weather hit and it has slowed to a crawl.

So it must be something right between 70F and 90F what makes a pumpkin growing big -) Wish I had that.

I found that daytime highs of about 25 to 30°C are best. Over about 32 to 35°C fruit growth will slow down. But what is really important is the nighttime low temperature. Over 20°C is best, 17°C to 20°C is good as well. Anything between 12°C and 17°C will result in some growth as well but not in the 20/+lbs range. Everything under 12°C is crap and everything under 10°C will shut down fruit growth (not only this night but it will effect all future growth).

Finally hit my first ever 20 pound day. I feal like a kid at christmas getting that first glimpse of the fruit early in the morning. Roy of Cornerstone describes it as "growing before his eyes".

I'm right there with you kahuna. Never thought I would see it but one of mine went from 112 ott (36.4) yesterday morning to 133 ott (57) last night. A gain of just over 20#'s. I won't see it again though since I had to move it and in doing so had to cut a lot of roots at leaf nodes.

Martin - your right those warmer night temperatures are key to the big overnight gains. The southern and east coast are good evidence of this. Those warm humid nights really help.
I thought about trying to enclose, insulate warm/heat a pumpkin chamber as an experiment. Too much to do right now...maybe next year.
