when should i put up a shading sturture and will this change the color of my fruit?

From what I know , The pumpkin should be kept covered in some type of shade shack from the day its been pollinated or before, not sure if it will change colour or not but it keeps the skin from hardening off to early which stops the growth of the pumpking and or cracking of the skin

No it will not change the color. The covering is used to keep the skin from getting hard and cracking. Scott

OUr plant did not grow in the direction that I planned. The one secondary is up to the porch I will have to train it away from the porch as I was advised. The main vine headed to and went under a tree and is shaded very well. In fact, when it rains almost every day, the ground under the tree near the pumpkin is just damp and well shaded. Looks like I wont have to make a structure to protect the pumpkin.
