I have my first female blossom on the main vine of my lone AG plant at 11' out. I'm guessing it will open in 3-5 days. I'm hoping this will be my pumpkin. I'm wondering when it's best to terminate the secondary vines. I'm growing a Christmas tree pattern plant, and the first secondaries are 9.5' long. Should I start terminating shortly after my fruit is set? Is it best to terminate the secondaries all at once, or do it over several days? Also, should I remove the small secondary and leaf at the node where the female blossom is now, or after fruit set?

I did not plant mine far enough away from a structure. It is 6" away. Should I train it awway from the structure or should I terminate it?

I train mine away RB, I've read no less than 4-6 ft long Doug. I'm interested to know also the best time to remove around the female node also.

RB, I Ran into the same problem this year, Both of my plants grew the wrong direction and 3 weeks ago they were both climbing the back yard fence, I simply cut all the tendrils off and placed 2 bamboo sticks around the vine to train them downhill, it took me a good 3 weeks to get them turned and heading downhill, My secondarys on the other hand are out of controll and i doubt i'll beable to train them away from the fence, The one secondary has already gone threw the fence and into my neighbours yard, I had no choice but to cut it off, because i found a pumpkin on the other side that had been open pollinated and never knew it was even there, it was on the size of a small baseball so it wasnt a big deal, all other secondarys are close to the fence and they will be cut back shortly as well. Good Luck Dave

I agree stormy thanks. DaveM Thanks for all the details bud. I guess I can train them. How long should I let them grow? They are not out of control. I have seen many pics here and mine are quite tame compared to most I have seen. But this is our first year. SO I won't get too frustrated. I would be happy with 200+ or 300+. I would be ecstatic. Good luck.
