I did the same last year and applied the 00-00-60 and the fruits stopped growing pretty much. This year I am being conservative but steady. Sit back and relax.

They'll grow well enough without us hovering over them. Try going fishing, or take the kids to the movies and ice cream (if you have kids), or something to get your mind off the pumpkins.

try to learn from my mistakes...2 years ago i had 3 that were about 250 to 300 lbs and boy did i put the 0-0-60 to them..they were growing like a wildfire..then one evening when i got off from work it looked as if a steam roller had rolled through my patch on the way to a fresh pile of asphalt....all three had blown up and were as flat as a pancake....

JUST SAY NO....Come on Mark we need to beat Clarence this year.... Plus that dang Beachy Kid will probably make a trip to Wisconsin, Just to knock us down a few places...Everyone and his mother is growing that darn 501 seed also. Slow and steady will win the race and its a long way to the finish line.

Get some greensand and tell yourself its 0-0-60. That way you are putting down some K and you won't be weighing your pumpkin chunk by chunk.

Why not place a bomb with a timer under them instead? At least you can WATCH THEM blow up instead of FINDING THEM blown up. Spend your money on something else... go buy some beer, hell... even give the plants some while your at it, it's organic and safer than 0-0-600...LMAO

All pumpkins are females, maybe that's why we have such a hard time figuring them out! If you're gonna use the 0-0-60, at least put a video cam out there so we can all watch it blow over and over!

How's about calculating the needed quantity of potash required for the growth rate that is desired based on a quality soil test in conjuntion with a tissue analysis. There is a "plateau" level of potash we don't want to drop below.
More is stupid. Less is slow.
Calculated & applied properly (accurately), your potash WILL NOT kill your plants. Of course the Calcium, Magnesium & certain micronutrient levels also have to be held in consideration.
And if the fruits still blow, then the growth rate simply exceeded the genetic potential of the fruit.
Why do we insist on gambling when the odds can be calculated by sound plant science?

0-0-60 (Muriate of Potash) goes to work in 24-72 hours. Maybe less depending on the method of application.
