Well folks...
My season appears to be over due to stump rot. Way too late to start another... My PB is now 16 lbs.
I really appreciate the help from everyone here. I made 1 serious mistake this year that cost me. I put a mound of soil around the stump. I may go ahead and start another just for practice once again. Maybe I can pollinate before the first frost.
Good luck all!

Joe,,if your stump is gone, did you cover the vines? There should be some roots at each node where each leaf is,,It wont grow a monster, but your 16lb'er will get some bigger..I know how you feel..Good Luck....

I covered the main and buried a few secondaries. Will it really continue to go?
I uncovered about 2 inches of the main while repositioning the other day and noticed the root system coming out of the main...
Will burying the end of the main help also?

Do not give up. I have similar problems so I cut out the diseased tissue with a razor blade. Then I apply a bleacher for disinfection and it heals well. Good luck.. Jernej

I have one approaching 200lbs that has had no stump since it was pollinated. The last four days it has averaged 18.5 lbs a day.Keep spraying and fertilizing. You will be suprised at the result.
