I just noticed on CNN that the winter temps in parts of Australia today are warmer than our summer temps here in Germany at the moment...
Now I really feel rotten!

Ben, why don't you try growing a plant right now and then you'll know how we're feeling here at the moment...ha ha!

I'm getting blasted with hot temps here in Michigan that I can only stay out in the patch for a short time untill I get sun burned. Some of my leaves are sunburned and drying out. Can anyone send some rain this way?

Hey Michel,
Must be hard to grow being that cold!!! We had an unseasonal day last week at 24 degrees celcius, or 75F! It has tricked a lot of plants into thinking spring is here already. Average days are at about 18C or 64F top. Plenty of frost, have had about 15 in the last month, down to -3C or 27F. Don't think there would be much sucess with daily frosts. If I lived on the coast I could probably grow all year round as morning temps rarely go below 50F......

Well good luck and hope you can grow a big one despite the weather. How is the test patch going? Hopefully less weeds than what I had, lol.

Ben,
Some parts of Germany have even had snow yesterday and daily highs here lately are about 15 or 16 celcius with night lows around 10 or 11 degrees. It's expected to start warming up near the end of the week and the only good thing is that we're getting quite a bit of rain that most of us needed.

I have about a half hectare that is much warmer than the AG test patch but I only have selling pumpkins there this year. Next year I'll also put the ag's in there and forget about the cold patch completely. Live and learn....
I never know anymore whether it's better to plant tomatoes or cabbage with the change in weather each year...This is definitely looking like a cabbage year.
Later!
Michel

Test patch is still pretty weed-free but that patch is in a cold low spot and the plants are growing really slowly.
I still have one of your plants growing out there but will have to check which one it is. I can still till with a tractor between my 4 meter wide rows one time as soon as it dries up a bit and do the rest with my hand tiller. Directly around each plant I'll pull by hand.
