What percent of your fertilized pumpkins typically abort?

I've had 100% abort, 100% not abort, and everything in between!

Every year so far my first pumpkin on the vine and maybe the second one aborts but the third usually takes.
Maybe I shouldn't be trying to pollinate the first one or two at all and even pinch them off as soon as they appear but that's always a hard thing to do when I'm so excited to get a pumpkin started each year.

For me it isn't so serious anymore as I just want to grow a healthy plant from now on and have some fairly huge pumpkins to brag about at halloween.
Best regards!

Forgot to add the fact that I previously used a lot of fertilizer thruout the season and never cut back before pollination. Now I use very little nitrogen or fertilizer of any type so I hope to have better luck. I think too much nitrogen definitely works against fruit set but there are also many other factors such as Matt Mongeon spoke about with cutting off some early fruit that had set and then losing some later fruit due to aborts afterwards...

Time will tell.
