Well I'm thinking of terminating the main vine on my 1178
L Wentzell, its out to the 10 + foot mark problem is ive run out of room for it to grow, Its currently hitting the back fence and growing upward its got 2 females on it one rigth at the fence line and other about 3 feet in from the fence, these 2 will be pollinated, The secondarys on this plant are out 2 feet now and i was thinking of just nipping the tip of the main vine off and just growing the secondarys outward. Would this do any harm to the plant and can you still get a good fruit off a secondary if by chance the one of the 2 on the main dont take ?

Now I understand why these plants require a large space for growing.

next year the patch will be expanded to avoid this problem in the future.

thanks

Dave

Well of course the best fruit usually come from the main vine but big ones are grown on secs too. I did this last year and my secs took off. 25-20 ft. I would leave the main on as long as possible but if you cut the secondaries will take off fast. Jeff
