My 805 pukos plant has developed a crack/split in the main vine , right infront of the fruit. Pic is in my diary.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.

jay35,

The split looks like it is accross the vine. By "in front of" do you mean between the tip of the main and the fruit? or between the fruit and the trunk/stump.

If you mean the later, I think the general consensus is to train the next secondary back to become your main vine. I have had the same experience this year. It has happended multiple times on the same plant. In all cases the split appeared 2 or 3 days after a foiliar feed. I don't know your situation, but other posts have suggested that this cracking phenomena is in part due to overfertility. Mine cracked a little more dramaticly and looked more like a firecracker hole. Other factors may be genetics and cool nites/warm days. Good luck

Jay,
I have a vine crack on my only AG plant. It split across the main vine at about the 2 ft. mark. I actually heard it crack, as I was moving the vine. It is almost an inch long(up and down), and it goes into the hollow center of the vine. It split whent the maine vine was about 3.5 ft. long. The vine is now 6 ft. long, and growing 4-6 inches a day for the last 5 days. I'm going to go with it, and hope it doesn't compromise the food supply to the eventual pumpkin I hope to set on the main. My split looks much worse than yours. I'm a newbie, so take my comments for what you feel they are worth. Good luck!

Doug

The crack is between the fruit and the tip of the vine.
Thanks for the comments.
