We had a horrible hailstorm on the weekend. My 500 Carlson took some really heavy damage. This, after I've battled horrible winds and cool temps that included a late June frost. That surprise-late frost badly damaged my 537 Hildebrant. I know that things will probably look better as time goes on, but I'm thinking of giving up. All of the effort, and time spent on these plants, for nothing.
There are some pics in my diary. What does everyone think, will this plant recover?

Smitty, hail seems to show up here every year. If the leaves werent stripped down to the ground, they will recover just fine. In a few months when you have that 1000 lber, remember that I called the damage your plants suffered "slightly worse than aeration". You'll be amazed. Keep at it, they should be just fine in a few weeks.

I thought the same thing, lots of main vine breaks this year. But I thought to myself, self? I would feel at a loss if I did not have a pumpkin for Halloween. DON'T GIVE UP!

I second everything said. My plants were also ravaged by hail not too long ago and it was looking grim. Thanks to the advice of the many great people on this site, I stuck with it. It seems all the hail did was tick the plants off and they now have something to prove! The current growth rate is even better than before the hail storm.
What do you have to lose? Stick with it and you'll be glad you did.

smitty, i had hail 3 times last year and my rows of secondaries were blown over like dominoes similar to rock's recent post and i still had my pb. as long as the plants stay alive, they want to live and recover and produce...and hopefully they produce big. stay with it brother. shazzy

Here are some good words of encouragement that I got before. Don't give up on these plants because they wont give up untill the first frost gets them.

Wow!!! I can't believe how much support everyone from this site always gives. I was pretty upset yesterday, and was not very motivated to keep going, but now, I'm going to give it the best shot I can. If I do manage to get a decent pumpkin this year, it will be a credit to everyone who posted on this thread.
Thanks!
P.S. Eddy, I', taking a camping holiday starting tomorrow in Kananaskis, so I'll be coming your way. Which plant would you like me to start watering?
LOL!!!!!
