I have a main vine that broke about 8ft out. Just before the break, I have a pumpkin. I was able to cut vine and save pumpkin. Question? There is no vine after the pumpkin, I had to terminate vine due to break. With the luck I have had (bad main vine year) this year I thought it would be a good idea to pollunate as many pumpkins as possible and see what I get. Anyway, since this pumpkin is at the end of the vine with no growth after it, will it have a chance?

I would take the closest secondary vine to the broken tip and train it as the new main. Things should work out just fine.

Cheese, I ask about the same question in one of these posts somewhere, A guy told me he grew a 800 pounder on the end of a main like you have. Unfortunatly the pumpkin I had started on main didnt take after the main broke about 3 feet infront of it. I just took the closest healthest secondary and grew it out as a main. That secondary is now thicker then the main was. Only thing is, is that the new mains secondaries dont grow as fast for sum reason.

My 658lbs German record pumpkin in 2002 was grown at the end of the main vine. The vine snapped off just a few inches behind the female. I even didn't train a secondary to take the place of the main....

if your going to grow with no main after the pumpkin be sure to let the sides before the pumpkin grow longer than normal to make up the difference
you need good leaves down the stretch
