I bought a 40 lb. bag of manure at a garden center. I put about 5 lbs. in an old pillow case, and put a tie around it to hold it in. I then put this in a 5 gal. bucket of water, and added a little molasses. A couple times a day, I lift the bag up and down in the bucket, to aerate it a little. This is the first time I've tried making manure/compost tea. I don't use an aerator, like many do. I hope someone will comment on if my method will turn out O.K., as well as answer your question.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I would be concerned about the manure from a garden center being sterile. I was told that most manure sold in garden centers has been sterilized. I would also be concerned that you're not getting enough oxygen into the mix. You can pick up a fish tank aerator, airstones, and tubing at any pet store for about $30.00. (cost me $28.50 at Pet Smart) Here's a link to where I built mine. It has been listed here before.

Lil grower...follow that link Matt just posted. It's easy, cheap, and it works. No need for fancy equipment, just take a look at this $1295 craziness....http://www.groworganic.com/a/item_E151_System25CompostTeaSystem.html
I put my compost in an athletic sock and tie it off, then put in a 5-gallon bucket, 2 aerators and a fish tank pump, molasses, kelp, fish emulsion, calcium, humic acids, some Pro-Max bacterial powder, and water. (I'd like to get some H2O from the neighbors fish tanks instead of rain or tap water) The kelp, fish emulsion, and molasses are pretty much a standard but you can get creative and add other beneficials to whip up some super-brew!

Oh yea...brew it for 1-3 days and use it either as a foliar spray or plant drench.

1 3lb. coffee can of Cow Manure 1 same Mushroom Compost 1 same Peat Humus 4 large handfuls of Alfalfa Cubes Small solo cup 1/2 full FoxFarm Marine Cuisine Same 1/2 full Wormcastings Same 1/2 full Lake Alice Bat Guano "compliments of Tommy" Same 1/3rd full Epsom Salts 4 tablespoons Black Strap Molasses.
I think that's it.. ? Once the pumpkins have been set I will be changing that mixture, leaving out the Bat Guano, and wormcastings then adding Greensand and kelp. I toss that mixture into my Patented Poop Buckets ;) then the buckets into 50 gallon drums that have 2 aquarium pumps running sets of airstones, let sit in a cool shaded area for @ 36 hours. It will build a Rich Foamy head on it, "building beneficial bacteria. Nothing scientific to the mixture, it just seems to work well for me.

I put compost or horse manure ,molasses neptunes seawead and fish in a burlap bag, I then put an air hose from my air compresser in the bag and weight it down with a piece of chain and drop it in my 50 gallon plastic drums . I can adjust air pressure. I tried it on my test plant (ncgiant)first and it worked well, I use an oil free compressor .I use water from a well that has a high iron content could this hurt any thing? I use it foilier and irrigate also.
