Good DaY FELLOW pUMPKINEERS

Ok, I have read alot on hear about growing the big ones...just wanna clarify a few things about the best chances to get ahead
1)The secondary vine, the one with the tenticles, do I just bury the tenticles or the whole vine, Last year I just did the tenticles???
2) I near Toronto canada and was wondering when I should apply my first dose of SEVIN. For the last two years Ive got caught with the vine borers and although I don't think it was a 30000lber I put alot of time into the garden to see it destroyed by a bug!!!!!!!!Grrrrrrrrrrr..
3) I 'm pretty happy with the progress so far....when I put them in the garden I used 4-12-4 Miracle grow(STARTER). now with the vines well on there way I wanna pump it up(owe a little baby toooo)a notch what shall I use ?????????. Please just stuff I can buy at Home Depot or a local Canadian shop. No I dont need the special recipes from the Ugandan Root of Elephants Nuts....Or German Sauwekraut Baby Cabbage Oil......Any way thanks to the BPG out there for your assistance and a HAVE A GREAT DAY

I bury the whole vine. this helps against the vine burrowers.
