this morning i notice that the top part of the female
blossum is partially torn away from the round pollinated
pumpkin part on a 6 day old set kin. i can see into the
crack a bit and see no signs of rot. i placed captan on
the area. has anyone had minor damage where these 2 parts
of the female blossum joins, and what was the outcome
whether good or bad. i have 2 more females pollinated
down the line on this main so no big deal. my concern is even if it heals temporarily, i am afraid later on that
this would be a prime area for failure with a pumpkin split.
any advice is greatly appreciated and i will take what
ever info into mind during the culling process on this
plant.
thanks
shazzy

I would see the danger of a potential blossom end split later and focus on your other females. Maybe keep it it as a shock absorber as long as it will last for you.

May I ask what a shock absorber is, and the purpose of it?

Some growers keep unwanted fruits for the reason not to take all the power into their "final keeper" all the time, mostly to avoid splits. If it´s time for the keeper to add some more final pounds, the "shock absorber" will be removed.
If my explanation was not right, maybe someone else can clear it up. Personally I never tried this method.

good advice floh, no sense having it hang over my head all
season worrying about a blossum end split.
thanks,

Yes I had the same problem a few years back .
Pumpkin developed a blossom end split when it hit about 600 lbs.
Cut it off and go with on of the other ones you have.
