I am one of many growers who have tried to help Steve grow him a pumpkin. Many others have taken him under their wing, and did a lot more than me {Kenny B. is probably at the top of that list...LOL}. We all wanted to help out however we could. Hell, I actually stole Steve last year at our weigh off so he could see how my patch looked, and showed him & told him some stuff I wouldn't share with just anyone. I started a cutting from the 940 98 Mombert plant last fall, kept it all winter, then had help from his sister {who sounds all fine...LOL} getting it up to him in time. I wrote him an email after his wind, and his hail storms trying to get him back on track. Well, anyone wanna help me out here?

Steve, dude... What is up with this " I'm done for the season" talk? Come on now, you can't be serious? This is only the 22nd of July, your only about 6 weeks behind if you start over NOW! I too had hail, and I had to start some seeds a few days ago to replace a couple genetic plants that have no hopes to re-grow. Yeah, sure it's way late for that for growing anything real big on it. I really am determined to get me a fruit on that genetic come hail or high water! What I'm trying to say is that the season is long still, and not trying means failing to reach my goal. You still at least can end up with a "207 Kirchler" if you don't quit now! You have a lot of good seeds, some of them will be wasted over time anyways, so pick something and just grow them! You have nothing to loose, but a lot to learn and gain! Come on, brush yer self off now and git back up on that horse!!!

I agree with all of the above Steve. I have been coming to this site for about 3 years now and Steve was one of the first people that would even chat with me. Don't give up Steve, hang in there and take the Madmans advice!

Back in the mid 1990's I started a plant about now on the summer solstice, and did not pollinate until August 9th. I did not bury vines nor prune the plant which was only grown in 150 sq. ft. with very poor soil, but yet I managed to pull off a 242 lbr. that looked like it weighed 400lbs. due to it's size and pretty color & measurements..It had everyone at our local weigh off worried, and I made a place for myself among the local/state collection of the few growers here in colorado. This is also the pumpkin that taught me a very big lesson that year and got me sold on the sport of growing the big ones, even though I had grown them for a few years before I did this fruit. Here in colorado it is definately the school of hard growing, as you must learn every step of the way, storm to storm, freeze to freeze, and working your soil, inhailing the horse s--t till your nostrils are black and tasting it also in your throat, which means a taste for the big one.....Just a word of advice...James Kane..

See Steve... all is not lost yet! If you really wanna get things rolling again, I'll speed up things and give you some clones if your sis still comes down here! That will give you a jump on seed started plants, since they are already throwing male and females. That should give you 3 weeks of time back that you can have to get a decent sized fruit by seasons end. Lemme know. If you need advice, it seems here like you have plenty of people that are rooting you on and will help, as you have a few fans...LOL!

{crowd chants}:

"Steve... Steve... Steve...!!!!!"

Hi Marc and all, thanks for the support, I just got done filing some more seeds and am going to try at least. The 845 took 4 weeks on the water heater, bad germination when I had such good during winter practice... I started a 1064.5 Needham also, but my 545 Handy won't go I don't think which was meant for 845 at beginning of it all, anyhow, will learn some stuff, Thank you for the words of encouragement, Steve

Steve, 4 weeks to germinate a seed ??? Usually if it does not go in a 7-10 days it is a dud. You must be doing something awfully strange, as my average is 2-4 days breaking the shell with older seeds, and the newer ones usually sprout in 18-48 hours. I believe this site has a section on germinating seed, seems page one may be a good place to start. Maybe if you use your monitor on your computer to heat them up it may work better, as it seems in the winter months your monitor is never turned off..just a word of advice......

My 723 Bobier took 2 weeks to get up and out of the soil, the other 5 I started were up in less than 7 days. I thought it was no good, as it puttered along. Now it has 2 main vine fruit set on it, growing very steady, and I am really excited about it. Dont ever give up on a slow growing monster genetic seed like an 845 or a 723. They will find a way to work for you..
