I have a question for you guys. I own a web hosting company. If I spend the time and effort for a public site like aggc, would everyone here want something like that? I don't mind putting something together that everyone can contribute to. I don't see a need to charge anyone either for such a thing.

I'd Like that joe, reason, ...I've grown ag's for a couple years, never had a Monster,375 lbs.My Pb. I'm a exp. gardener, 32 years on my own, not even counting the days from the time I was expected to help in the garden at home, and a Master Gardener with the extension of the U of M. And I don't believe that I need to "try to qualify" to be accepted into the AGGC, nor pay a fee for collected information that should be of public record in the first place, I also doubt I would be accepted or fit the criteria, although the info above should deem me as an experienced grower...How many people on this site have that many "hands in the dirt" years experience?

I´m a 3rd season AG grower with a PB of 500+ so far. I watched my grandparents and parents working in their gardens for 30 years, with that in my background I´m trying to improve my own work (with some success). Does that qualify? "Experienced growers only" sounds like some elitist academic chatter to me. Explain what you expect or better say nothing at all. Joe, I like the idea. Keep it up.

My vision would be for something that doesn't put too heavy a burden on a few administrators, for example, automate the insertion of data... this is pretty technical, as the person entering their data would need to be able to link up to (possibly) existing fruits in the database.
An administrator (or perhaps many administrators) would need to frequently review the data for errors and surely there will be some dork who gets a kick out of entering false and/or obscene info. But such a plan could work.
What would be the absolute perfect solution? That Mike N. and the administrators of bigpumpkins.com get together and form an alliance... share the info. Of course, that is a longshot... and I'm not suggesting that Mike should "give up" in any sense... Just throwing some ideas out... there has got to be better revenue streams out there that what is working/not working for Mike...

This is a good idea. Most of the people that I knew that were growing AG's 10 yrs or so ago have quit. There is clearly a burn-out factor in this hobby. The number of work hours to maintain these plants is too high but also everyone eventually reaches a point where it is very difficult to keep achieving higher weights.
A closed or restricted site where 1 person is doing all the work like the AGGC will probably not last long term. An alternative site might be good if someone has the resources.

Gads...I have a reply for you but I can't post it. It'd reveal what you really are and get me kicked off the site to boot, rats!

I would pay to join the AGGC, but I don't know what you mean by experienced. Please tell me what you mean Kyle.

Jake...I did a copy and paste straight from the AGGC website. I didn't make that statement, you'd have to ask Mike Nepereny what *he* means by experienced.
