I am a first year grower intrested in growing a pumpkin that has great color and shape along with size. i have a 766 davies, and a 620 boyotn, in the same patch and i am going to have to cull one. THe 620 boyton has huge green leaves, and a nice thick stem, it has also already laid down. The 766 davies has somw what crinkly leaves, and not quite as thick stem. The 620 is growing better but the 766 davies has the gentics i want... which one do i cull?? thankyou for your input as i am quite confused! lol

sometimes it's just a toss up. but pick the one you think is best, 620 Boyton had good Gentics same as the 766. I would say go with the best looking of the two plants.
I did the same thing this year was going to put 783 in my main patch but the 1016 looked just too good to pass up, so I put them right next to each other.
well about two weeks later the one I wanted the 783 burned almost to death while the 1016 took off. now the 1016 in the king of the patch.
I say if you can grow them near each other later down the road pick one that looks like crap.
Good luck on you picks!

Last year, when I was a first year grower, I couldn't decide which of two plants to cull. Shannon told me that it was like picking out a puppy, you just go with your gut feeling. I guess that's good advice. Don't stress out about it too much. :-) good luck

If it makes it easier "Mark Well" the one you don't like and have some one else preform the execution. Just remember if you let them grow next to each other to long one is robbing from the others potential... Brigitte those were wise words..glad to see you pay attention.
