what is the definition of a flat vine? Literally flat or having a single vine with double leaves, double tendrils, triple flowers etc. My 845 nesbitt has a massive stump area and is more flat than round, it looks unique, but I have no double vines, no double leaves, etc, looks pretty normal besides this and the tip od the vine is normal at 9 inches long. if this is a flat vine, does it matter if I set my pumpkin on the main if it's flat and why is a flat vine a big deal if it grows normal pumpkins? No one seems to answer flat questions for some reason:)Jimmy

a flat vine is both literally flat and with double or triple or more leaves, flowers etc. Usually the longer they get the easier they are to identify and the more flat they get. At first they just look a little bigger ... then they look 2x, 3x or more normal vine size. the tell tail sign is the double leaves, tentrils and 2ndaries, with lots of extra flowers. Last year a friend of mine that is not on BP had one... he let it grow... by the end of Aug. it was 1-2 inches tall and 10 inches wide. There were leaves, flower, tentrils etc., everywhere.

so a flat vine has both a flat vine and mutations of trips flowers, double leaves, tendrils etc. So I'm a little confused now because my plant doesn't have any mutations with double leaves, flowers, tendrils, etc, but the stump area looks flat. As the vine is growing, it is about 22 inches now (main vine) the more it grows, the more normal it looks. The tip (6 to 8 inches is normal), the middle 7 inches is normal but a little wider or flat than normal, and the stump is flat. The plant looks great besides this. Any comments anyone:)? Maybe my plant will grow out of it?

You are fine... if none of the growth is double then you don't have a flat vine. a stump (basil, basil crown, or base) as it grows bigger can look funky, flat, fat, oblong, etc... whatever... so long as the new growth is fine your OK.

your welcome- glad I could help... these plants can be funny. I noticed just last night on my 735 Pukos plant that on 3 of the secondary vines I have double leaves and double tendrils but for just for one node ! The rest of the vines are normal on either side. Also the main is fine. Go figure !
