I have a female that will open in the next couple of days on my 961 Daletas.(Great Plant) I will try to pollinate it, but it seems to soon for a first week of Oct. weigh date. What are some early pollination dates that growers have grown some big ones on? I like to target June 28th as the earliest set date... Thanks

I wish I could help but I am a newbie. Sorry George. But I would imagine that you would get more than one pumpkin on the vine and you would select what you would think is the best pumpklin on the vine then discard the other(s). But today I noticed that I have a female that just came out today. I do not know when it will open. I do not even have any males that are open yet. Maybe in the next few days. The female should take longer before it opens. I have a female and my main vine is only about 6 ft long. Only the pumpkin behind the female is yellow. Is this the correct color for a pumpkin that is only the size of a marble?

George, Why don't you just let the pumpkin set (if it's possible) and then take measurements often to see how FAST it's growing. Set more pumpkins later and see which one is growing the FASTEST and then make your decision about which pumpkin or pumpkins to actually keep on the plant for the October weigh-off. That's what I'd do at least. You have plenty of time still after all... Michel
