My plant has about 5 or 6 true leaves. In the middle of this, I see a stalk with a number of small leaves that are formed on it. Is this what will be the main vine? If so, I may have a problem, as it is pointed in the wrong direction, by about 120 degrees. When I planted, I placed the plant so that the first true leaf was pointing in the opposite direction that I wanted the main vine to go. Does it sometimes occur that this method doesn't work? If this is the main vine, is it possible to train it to go 120 degrees in the other direction? I appreciate your patience with all my questions, as I'm quite nwe to this, and want to do it correctly.
Thanks! Doug

Hi Doug. I think I had the same problem as you. Check out my diary starting on June 2nd. I wasn't sure if it was the main because I had another vine starting as well, but the other turned out to be the back vine. Over 5-6 days, I gently trained the plant to go the other way using bamboo stakes. The vine is now 5 feet long and did turn out to be the main. It requires a bit of vine management of the secondaries as I found out tonight, because of the 1/2 u shape of the vine, some will cross each other. I don't know if I really did the best thing, but so far it seems to be working. Just be patient and very gentle, and do it during the heat of the day when the plant is warm, otherwise you may hear a dreadful 'snap'. Good luck. Alan

Thanks Alan! I checked out your diary. Good job with it by the way. I will have to see what my plant looks like in the next few days, and decide if I need to redirect it.
