I'm going to the GPC at Thanksgiving Point. 7 days and counting. It will be my first weighoff and I will have to admit I'm a little excited about it. I ordered a shirt from bigpumpkins.com just to wear and it looks good, as much help as this site has helped my I'm glad to support it. LOL. May no one lose any pumpkins this week.

I have a feeling that there will be a lot of
big ones at Canby this year.
but don't let that stop you from bringing what
ever you have. every one is welcome... and everyone
is made to feel welcome.

Bring what you have to Canby, then bring another to Eugene, then bring another to Des Moines. The PNWGPG has 3 weighoff sights this year. The more participation we have the better they will be. Even little pumpkins are part of the show and are sponsors are paying us to put on a show. Who knows how you will do? The first year of the Des Moines weighoff I snuck into 10th place with a 328 lb. pumpkin just because some people with bigger pumpkins didn't participate. I got a nice plaque and a check for $100. It was a better prize than my biggest pumpkin got in Canby that year placing 18th, and I can honestly say I had a top ten finish at a weighoff. Besides you'll never have time to meet and talk with all the growers at just one event. If you don't have a chance to talk to Joel Holland or Kirk Mombert there, you might get to chat with them and pick their brains in Eugene at Lone Pine the next week. Then you can talk with Genevea Emmons and Jack and Sherry LaRue in Des Moines. This is a great oportunity to meet and connect with some of the worlds top growers so I recommend you show up even without a pumpkin if you have to.
Our sponsors pay out the prize money because we put on a show and draw a crowd. Come be part of the crowd. I say this to all growers whether you have a competitive pumpkin or not. Come on out to you local events and support the folks who pay the prizes and sponsor our annual show. Without them we would just have family or neigborhood bragging rights. These folks need us to support them and we need their support as well. Good luck to everyone.

You Know I will always support bragging rights! My pumpkins my look pretty puny next to 1200+ lbs, but I sure worked hard to grow the darn thing, and I have trouble estimating weight, so I'm getting it weighed!! Plus it's alot of fun at weigh offs.
