I am confused here. "not difficult to do" ;) I am experimenting with growing an AG hydroponically using ebb and flow. Am planning on setting a record for hydroponically grown AG. :D
I have the main vine being fed at every other node by it's own 2 gallon container. I have four nodes set to rooting before the pumkpin I have pollented and plan on setting a few after the pumpkin. What I am hoping to accomplish here is to make nutrients more readily available to the pumpkin bye directly feeding it. My question is, Would the side vines be necessary using this method?? Without them, am I limiting photosynthesis by decreasing the amount leaf surface area, or would the leaves on the main vine create enough food to feed the pumpkin???
The pumpkin I have set is @ 12' from the base, plant is healthy and growing fast, pictures available in my gallery.

I think you might want to look at the Anaconda training method. This method proposes one main vine without any secondaries but the main is allowed to grow very very long and a lot of fertilizer is used.
I personally think that the secondaries before the pumpkin are very important!
Maybe someone else will have a different opinion... or maybe you can start a post about how large of a pumpkin was grown on an anaconda... Michel

I believe Brett Hester has tried the snake method and reported that it is possible to obtain 400 or 500 pounds from and single vine with no secondaries.

Thank you Very Much.
I think I have come up with a plan. What I plan on doing in once the secondaries are @ 4 to 5 ft long I will cut them, dip em in Olivia's cloning gell and stick them in their own 2 gallon pot. Don't know why I haven't thought of it yet.
The hydro pumpkin now has pumpkin # 2 set and pollenated as of this morning. The pistilate seems to be deformed. Adding Pics Now.
