What's that supposed to mean? No pumpkin on the vine yet? I don't compete with other people. I grow one for holloween.

Southern means that most growers grow for Competitions in October. So we plant are pumpkin plants, so a great big pumpkin will be ready when the weigh-off comes.

If you pull a pumpkin off the vine, it only takes time before it rots. If it's too early then it may weigh light or may not even make it come weigh-off time.

Glad to see your pumpkin Napagrown. it's looking great!!!

There are also growers who compete with their own personal best. Unless of course, they happen to throw a big'un.

Like Jeff said.....I meant it's a little early for competing, it'd have to sit on the vine awhile unless you take it to an August or September fair.
But hey, if it's good for you then that's all that matters.

July 1-15 is considered the "pollinating" zone....give or take a week on either side.

I understand now. I've always had my pumpkin done around mid July 'cause it stopped growing on the vine. I guess I should wait and start my plant in May from now on. Thanks for the advice everybody.
