I just took pics today, of day 40, and will be in my diary sometime today. I am at, or better than I usually am for this time of year, with 3 female fruit showing right now , one on the 805 Bobier(should be about 9 ft out), one on the Knauss 898 (should be about 8 ft out)and one in the 723 Bobier (this one too close, maybe 6 t, it will get pruned off).

Check back later today in my diary. I have had some leaf damage due to some high winds, but secondaries are starting up nicely, and I am snipping off tertiaries already off the secondaries.

Congrats to Rock and everyone else that is doing well this time of year. I am the ultimate opposite compared to last year. I would estimate that my best plant has a vine about 10 inches, my slowest about 4 inches.

Thanks to all that have posted their successes, please continue, it may be the only good looking plants I see this year...LOL

Day 40? I have never done such a thing. I would suspect we are ahead of previous years, and definitely ahead by date. Plants look ok, got some sort of deficiency going on. Happened last year too, so need to get it corrected for pumpkin growth. All in all, plants look good for being like you say day 40.

Today is day 40 since I planted the seeds. Day 40 from germination will be in 4 more days. I'll probably have one plant over 2 feet by then, and one plant over 4 feet. But I can let y'all know then.

37 days from sprouting and 2 plants have 6' mains,
the 1301.5 eaton and the 695 handy. the 1082 curry is
6'6" and all 3 have at least one leaf measuring 22".
i have to say that the mini 6'x 10'x 7'6" tall greenhouses
over each plant helped me considerably because my
buddy's plants on the other half of the yard are at
4', 3', and 2' vines without hoophouses. i do have
some minor phytotoxically spotted leaves when i applied
my demand cs at too high of a rate and burned the smaller
tender leaves, mostly on the secondary's leaves from
dripping insecticide hitting them. all and all, it has
been my best start in my 3 years growing AGs and hopefully
my good fortune continues this year, knock on wood.
best of luck to all those with slow growth, the warmer
weather that has just arrived should get everyones'
plants out and running in no time. once they start going,
they will add 4' to the mains in a week with the stronger
sun and warmer conditions.

I believe my 339 Little was set out may 8th. It has a 5'6" main vine. The stump is about 2" in diameter. The main vine is 1 3/4"in diameter just off the stump and maintains a 1" diameter to 16" from the end of the vine. Several leaves 22" long very healthy looking plant. I have a nc giant that has leaves almost as big and a 53" main, but it has been in the ground about 2 weeks longer than the Little plant. I have several others that were planted at later dates that all are looking well.

LOL @ Tiller, Really doesn't matter untill that golden fruit set time. I have a friend who has fruit on the wimpy vine he started indoors the first of April and then transplanted, may top out around 350# the end of July.

Cliff, I wouldn't worry too much about the slow start with the 691, mine is doing the same thing and it's momma was the same way. Once it did start to run it made up for lost time. I really thought the 1026 was a dog last year in the early part of tht season. It proved me wrong. Once it did start to run for me it seemed like it was all main vine with little short secondaries. I would not call it a typical growth pattern in my experience, but in the end it produced my second largest fruit and I can't complain about those results.

Tiller,

Cool! Thanks for the info... I'll keep the 691 around,
especially since it's not competing with anything else
for space.

I just measured my 307# and it's 7'7" on Day 39. It also has a nice back main that's 3'4".
That seed is doing well for folks, and it should throw a heckuva heavy OTC pumpkin.
I appreciate all ya'll giving it a try.

My Gancarz is kickin ass. Pollinated 1st female today. Most all are just hittin the ground, slow ass start with salinity stuff tying up nutrients. Clearex and some hydrated lime got me outta a jam, and back on track to beat Ben and Wayne. Genetic patches have various results, depending on which one you go to. The Eiffler patch is the worst, as he spends ALL his time at the bar now instead of most of his time. Plants there barely alive, and have 0 % care, down frm 25% care. Yeah, I'm pissed.

Marc, Make note of this suggestion. Next year move the Eiffler patch to the bar. But erect a decent chain link fence around it with a coordination test lock on the self closing gate. Chronic DUI offenders have these in their cars now. More than 2 drinks & even a world class athlete can't get in.

My Plants are now at Day 41 from Germination.

the 620 Boyton's Main vine is now out at 27.5" from stump
the 1178 Wentzells Main vine is at 11" from stump.

At the rate of growth of anywere from 3-5 " per day on the main vine come end of June I am hopeing to have a nice 10 ft main set on the 620 and a nice 6-7 Footer on the 1178

and fingers are crossed that some female blooms arrive shortly within the last week of June so I can have a plant set.

The 339 Little I measured on 6-6-04 at 5'6 is at 11'8" this evening. I would not believe this if I had not seen it with my own eyes, I am amazed. I fed it some horse manure tea I made myself, and we have had 2 evenings of slow rain since. The plant has had no synthetic fertilizer added to the soil.It has not set a female yet either .
