I have two pumpkins presently growning on one plant.
One is beach ball size, the other softball size.
This morning i discovered that the bigger one of the two has a hole in it about half the size of a dime.
I figure this is the beginning of the end.
My question......
is this hole repairable??? OR should i cull it off now as it is surely consuming a lot of my plants energy, to help the other little guy along?
Thanks so much for the help.

when you say "hole" what exaclty do you mean? does the hole go all the way through the the cavity of the pumpkin? is it just a flesh wound? how deep is it exactly. if its not too deep, some woudl apply a past of captan or other fungicide and hope the pumpkin heals itself. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. its still early, you can cut if off if you choose, or you can go for it. good luck,
scott

Scott,

This hole goes clear through the cavity of the pumpkin. Its more of a slit than a hole.

if it goes into the cavity of the pumpkin, its pretty much done. i'd hack it and move on to another one. ther'es no sense in fighting a losing battle when you don't have to.
good luck,

Consider yourself lucky the hole came now. Look at my last year's diary for my nightmare with a hole. After putting nearly all my efforts into a single fruit it developed a hole between the ribs that went all the way in. Move on to another one.

Thanks for the replies....
I cut the pumpkin off and am focusing my efforts on the other one now.
At the time of the cuttting the pumpkin was about 2 weeks old. I weighed it for the heck of it... a little over 30 lbs but it was packing on weight everyday...
oh well
*sob sniffle*
hope this next one does better...
