i found that pruning a couple of the first true leafs helps, the ones that hold the plant level with there leaf tubes aganst the soil, once ya cut the leaftube at the main vine the plant tilts in the direction the vine wants to go and hopefully its also the direction you want it to go!but i think the key is tilting the plant in the direction you want the vine to go,i also used a rag and shoe lace with a coat hanger tiedown to anchor the plant in that special direction.wrap it around the stock i go about 2" up on he stock or ground and apply a little tension each day till its looking good .it wont happen in a day might take a week a little at a time ,dont snap the vine,LOL,mine are about 4 " off the ground still, should have touchdown tomorrow:).Hope this helped.good luck

I guide mine with bamboo stakes in an "X" pattern also. One "X" to hold up the vine, another "X" behind to hold the vine to the ground when the winds kick in.

Once again, one of my plants has chosen to Bend down instead of Lay down. You gotta watch the little buggers. I use old arrows in the X shape, and it still didn't cooperate.

Let nature take its course... no matter how long it takes it will come down.

pushing on the stump helps make it lean here at my place. This is NEVER a problem in genetics where the plants are exposed to wind. They always lean one way or the other. Most of the time they lean southeast when unprotected. Anyway, I apply pressure at the base of the stump with my thumb every day when they are little, and that helps them fall over fast, and harmless. Plus then I dont have a big "n" shape in my vines. Dad and I were 17 for 17 on getting them to lay down without kinks. Never noticed any harm the plant either like one may worry.

I find that using a misting bottle with water applied to the leaves helps to "weight down" the vine. This really helps when the plants are under plastic and on the dry side. I Also use John's technique of cutting off leaves that are holding up the vine. I had to cut two large leaves off two plants to help get them down safe.

I have the same problem with one of my plants, i mound dirt under the main till it touches the bottom of vine, then about a day later i move the dirt and waaa laaa, it lays flat. SlyChit
