Hello from a second year grower. Last year it was Luminas, this year Prizewinners. I don't know if I have the room for AGs, perhaps I'll get brave next year. Anyways, I have a problem. I have been very diligent this year in picking off the SVB eggs and spraying because of last year's oversights. Yet, one must have gotten through at the very beginning at the base were a cotyledon was on one of my plants. The plant is three weeks old, a little over a foot long with five leaves, and is on the verge of vining but has stopped growing the past few days. Today, I found the taletale mush at the abovementioned spot, about an inch or two above the soil line. The hole it created is about drinking straw size and the slit I created is about an inch long. The larva formally known as living was full size and about to leave for pupation by the looks of it. The plant at the moment still looks healthy. Now for the big question, should I remove it or leave it? If the former, that leaves me two plants and just enough time left in the season to start another Prizewinner seed or two in that spot. If the latter, then what should I do to it (mound dirt over the area, treating the wound with anything, etc.) Thanks, Kevin

Keven...I would dig out the booger. Use a very sharp craft knife to do as little damage as is possible. I would back out of surgery by applying a little Captan or Sulphur.
If you were planning ahead and had friendly nematodes you could have sent your biological army in after the booger.

Hi docgipe, I dug the booger out the moment I saw it. I put some sulphur on the wound this evening. I was thinking about adding nematodes to my visual egg inspections and sprays. Is BT applied externally or do you inject it into the vine with a needle (also just when SVB is sighted or on regular basis)? Thanks, Kevin
