What's to be done with a cracking secondary? Cut below crack? I have one pumpkin (Bubba) on the main about 6 feet down that's already 19" in circ.(see diary). Is this one set? I'm nervous because I have a small growing bed (10ft.x7ft.) and must terminate the main vine already.

If the crack is bad then just hack the vine off at that point. You wont really miss losing one sidevine.

When finding oneself outside, of average, in any situation one must do what one must do. It's pass, punt or get your butt thumped time. Take the best care of what you must be limited to. You may be pleased with the results. We will all cross our fingers for you. :)
Keep talking it up to friends, associates and neighbors. You may find someone willing to share a larger patch with you for nest years edition of big thumping pumpkin.

I think if the seconadary split really worries you ...like it might cause rot or spliting back to the main I'd have to remove it...way to early for a secondary to cause main vine problems...train something solid into the removed vine area. Grow em Big! Chuck
