We use a Snail & Slug killing bait that contains Metaldehyde & Sevin. Because Sevin kills Earthworms, I place it in homemade traps to prevents it's contact with the soil in the proper patch area. But I also treat the perimeter areas of the patch broadcast.

Walking boards give them a good hiding place during warm sunny days. Turn the boards over & pick them off. I throw them into the road to cook, but there is a myriad of novel ways to kill the ones collected.

Salt works well but don't place it on the patch soil for obvious reasons.

Stale beer in saucers works until the saucer overflows with rain. Thus my homemade "bait stations".

Escar Go and Sluggo....one of these is in Gardens Alive. No need to be concerned about the chemicals. Both are bio-degradable leaving you with a trace of nitrogen.

Side by side with the chemical version I had it was clearly demonstrated that the slugs and snails preferred the Escar Go. Sluggo looks like the same product possibly a private label. Just follow directions or toss them about as per instructions.

I personally would rather drink the beer and pee salt on the snails. At the edge of the patch of course. :)

38 degrees here this morning, any snails out there are wearing over coats! Maybe a shot of something stronger than beer...medicinal purposes..of course

Do the snails climb up the stem to the leaves?

Cory's slug and snail death.....

works like a charm in my patch - both for the pumpkins & strawberries.
Organic? not too sure but the earthworms like to EAT it. It's approved in my book if the lowly worm ingests it.

If there is any questions you gotta protect those young plants!

Take a look @ the Pumpkinguru's diary see the rings around his seedlings? Just take a guess as to what that stuff is.

I placed some 8-10" plastic pots with the bottoms cut out around my seedlings just in case the sluggo's got any ideas!
