hey everyone, i was thinking about the golden time zone, and i realized, that this year, since all other gpc weighoffs except topsfield will effectively be a week later then normal, our golden time zone is actually extended. according to don langevins first book, fruit growth takes 70-80 days on average. my biggest last year was on the vine 99 days, and didnt' grow the last two weeks. anyway, if you go from october 7 and count back 80 days, you hit july 18th. and that's on the high side. add another 10 days, and your at july 28. so, the 70-80 day mark is between july 18-july 28 this year. to put that in perspective, the "golden time zone" is considered to be july 1 through july 10. if you pollinated on july 1, your pumpkin will have been on the vine 98 days, that's a long time. so basically what i'm trying to say is, there is still time, keep pollinating!!!

That might work if you live in zone 5 or 6 but when you live in zone 4 It won't work unless one gets a warmer than average sept. After sept 6th nothing really grows on a normal year. Where I live.
