Our temps are suppose to drop tonight, and there are frost warnings North of us. Should I cut the two Big Maxs left on the vine?

Are they done growing? Mature? Cover them with a couple old blankets to keep them from freezing and hope the plant doesn't get frosted...if the plant does...then pick tomorrow...if not, they live to grow and mature another day.....G

If you get a light frost you can water them before the sun comes up to wash the frost off. I've done this to keep my plant alive when temps go down to 33-34 degrees, below 30 it may not help.

I cut the one that had not grown in a week. I left the other one on the vine.

Karen,
It should be around 35-39 here for tonight and tomorrow night. You can get light frost when you have temps these low as the cold air pools at the ground due to temperature inversions; so it could get down to 31 or 32 degrees at the ground level. Im going to turn my sprinkler on at around 3am and let it go until 9 am to mix up the air at ground level for the next 2 nights. After this we should be frost free for at least 7-10 more days... maybe another 2 weeks.

Always ask the weatherman, thanks C.C. I was laughing last nite when the local NBC news mentioned frost for some of the local pumpkin growers.

We had frost just West, North and East of Omaha last night. It only got down to 41 degrees at my place, but it was 32 in Sioux City. Tonight will be very close here for a very light frost... probably around 37. I didnt run the sprinklers last night, but tonight I will.
Jeff the Cold Air is headed your way too... but no frost just 40's for you in Georgia.

It is cold as the north down here. This is the south and it feels like it is about to snow. Last year at this exact day, it was scorching hot. The real winter cold didn't set in until about Thanksgiving.
