take a look at my diary..in 2 days the first 2 plant were almost consumed by cuke beetles,4 more plants in the same patch didnt have any damage...all the same plants from the same seeds, the only difference was i mulched 2 of them with old wheat straw...the cuke beetles nearly took them away....now why would the 2 with the straw almost be eaten alive and the rest not touched??

WOW!!, that is bad!, Im sorry to see that, it does look like someone took a 12 ga. shotgun to them. Hope they still make it.

Get some insect protection on PRONTO. Imidacloroprid and lambda cyhalathoirn or something like that are the active indredients I am using. Also knows as Merrit and Warrior/Scimitar/Triazicide respectively. Triazicide can be purchased at Lowes.

I think that the "undamaged" plant in your photo DOES have some damage, just not as much as the others! I think it's only a matter of time before they attack the other plants, unless you hit them first!

You might want to try a screened in box to put over your plants at this point. The plants are still small enough to easy do this. The insect damaged is pretty bad and a spraying with a strong insecticide might just be the final nail in the coffen for them.

I then would hose down the entire area surrounding your garden with a full strength insecticide. best of luck...Dean o

Some insects prefer the security offered by leaf litter & mulches. Perhaps they found the hay mulch "cozy".

I'm with Tom. Merit/Admire/Provado/Marathon/Gaucho or anything with Imidacloprid. I used a watering can on the transplants the same day they went in. Then straight clear rainwater. The roots suck it up. Gaucho is labeled for use directly on the seed. None are specifically labeled for all the uses we might wish to employ.

As Tom also said, Lambda-cyhalothrin as a perimeter spray would help. Especially the brushy, weedy, overgrowth areas & leaf litter that the insects use as winter quarters.

are these systemic??would isotox do the same??

Imidacloprid is systemic.

Lambda-cyhalothrin is not.

Check your Isotox label for the active ingredient. If it is Acephate (the smelly stuff), then it is systemic. Not the best Cucumber Beetle insecticide.

The dealers are likely from Mars or rather live under a rock. These are the people that don't grasp new/improved technology until long after it's old news & even then only because the old stuff is no longer being manufactured. Ask these guys if they've ever been to a licensed dealer recertification seminar& if not, how do they keep their professional credentials?

Lemme guess. The company truck is a rusty '55 pickup with holes in the bed right?
