This is a statistical analysis I compiled a couple years back based on data submitted by BP.com growers. I thought since there have been a number of new members over the last couple years, i'd throw this out there again. The list ranks each problem based on the percentage of votes it recieved during a survey conducted a ways back. The full article can be read at my website: www.jozepumpkins.homestead.com/home.html

The Top 10 Problems associated with Growing Atlantic Giant Pumpkins:

1.SVB 12.8%
2.Cucumber Beetles 10.3%
3.Temperature Extremes (too hot, too cold) 9.9%
4.Other Animals (deer, moose, gophers, squirrels, skunks, etc.) 7.9%
5.Powdery Mildew 7.1%
6.Woodchucks 7.1%
7.Rain extremes (hail, no rain)    6.7%
8.Other people in the patch 4.8%
9.Dogs 4.6%
10.Squash bugs    4.1%

Honorable Mention: Me, myself, and I (many growers seem to be a nuisance to their own patches) lol

One problem that takes new growers out of the game unexpectedly is wind protection. High winds snap them little critters off very easily.
