Hi all, Its me again with another dumb question, lol, but you gotta ask dumb questions if u dont know, lol, Ok here is what i have, i have 9 leaves on my plant already, I thought by all the talk that the main vien was the 2nd true leaf that formed, but im finding out that it dont look like a vien, its a hudge,,, and i mean hudge leaf, where is the vien usually located at on the plant, i see a really really small curly vien coming outta of the middle of the stump kinda, but its really small, is this the main vien?, my leaves are really big, i have a total of 9 leaves and i see a 10th one starting, does any one have a close up of there young plant with the vien starting?, im kinda confused on where the vien will start. I planted my plant opposite the the first true leaf, the way i want my vien to go, but i dont see a vien yet, just BIG GIANT leaves, lol thanks for reading, Slychit (Brooks)

the main vine comes out of the middle of the stump area and will slowly start growing one way, usually opposite of first true leaf. The easiest way to see the small main vine forming is to locate where the newest growth is growing out of the stump area, the newest leaves will be forming at the tip of the main. Jim

The main vine is a thing from which leaves grow (3rd true leav and most of next, till secondaries appear).

This makes me wanna run out and buy some syringes so I can feed my pumpkins the proper way!
I think I finally identified my main vain today on both of my plants.

The curly thing is a "tendril". In nature, they serve to anchor the vine to whatever is handy. In the patch, they serve to drive us crazy. You'll be penty sick of pruning tendrils by the end of July. But it's good to remove them all.
It sounds like the plant hasn't really started to vine at all yet. When it falls down & runs, you'll know.
Have fun.
