I am interested in finding out if pumpkin roots grow deep in the ground or if they are a shallow rooted plant. Could anyone give some information on this?

My experience is that the main root goes at least two feet. I've had roots from the main and large secondarys at a leaf junction grow to 18" long. I've heard from some that they have seen the main root grow to 36". Keep in mind that the main also sends out thousands of superficial roots as far as 6-8 ft. from the main stump.

This is not the 1st time this link has been posted. (Thanks Jim)

it will depend on how soft your soil is. soft soil deeper roots, hard soil more spread out roots.
