Hello, I just received some "Pro-Mix" for seed starting and when I opened the bag a horrible odor came out of the bag, Vermiculite, Perlite, Peat Moss, Limestone, and water holding gels are in this mix, these should not smell terrible should they? Should I use this bag or would it be harmful... Also, I received some fish fertilizer 4-0-0 powder... Is it ok to add this to seed starting mix? Thanks, Steven

Steve,
It should not smell bad. Chances are it probably got wet & sat around mouldering. It maight not be harmful at all. But we only start seeds once a year. Get a fresh bag.

Best advice to you Steve is to do your homework on growing mediums/ starting mixes, and mix your own that is the most adequite for your growing conditions using the ingredients you listed and also some of your own top secret things... if it works stuff....lol...it takes trial and error and much experimenting to get things correct, as your medium may not be correct when the plant is started.....just a bit off....but when the plant is in the ground it will correct itself when inserted into the permanant medium that finalizes the plants ultimate outcome. All climate and growing / soil conditions must be closely studied and kept at optimum conditions for your area, as colorado growing is no cakewalk.......but you are lucky you are 1000ft elevation lower than me.....JK.

Steve; Your clone should be almost at the stage to get a "stump" ready, it should be about 1-2 feet by this point. Lemme know, I'll guide you from that point... Soil story sounds strange to me... like going to buy gas and finding it turned to varnish right there at the at the pump. Not likely. Your sure your nose works? LOL! It's impossible for anything in pre mixed soil to go "bad", as there isn't anything mixed in it TO GO BAD! Better go to the doctor and check on that nose....
