I have these tiny bugs on the leaves of the plants that look like mites, not sure if they are baby flies or something else. Is it too early to start spraying with SEVIN. Thanks....Ray

If they are mites then start spraying asap. If you do not spray soon enough your plant will wilt and die off quickly.
Mites are especially harmful to young plants but even my well established plant went down due to mites (see photos in my photo gallery) last year.
Spraying a young plant is not good but in this case it is necessary...
I usually use a systemic product with the active ingredient called "Dimethoat".
Hope this helps!
Best wishes,
Martin

Ray,

Don't mess with mites. I have the sagfest solution right here.

Fast. Get a hand lens & look at them carefully.

2 spotted spider mite:

regular spider mite:

Call my cell if in doubt.

Quite sure I had a spider mite problem on one plant. Tiny critters were making small holes in a leaf. Leaf is now wilted. Found some spiders in the soil nearby. Used some insecticidal soap by Safer http://www.victorpest.com/ in the evening. Local hardware store had it. No more mites if that's what they were and no plant damage from the spray. Ladybugs like em http://www.victorpest.com/articles/mitesheat.htm

Steve,
What is the difference between these two types of mites?
Is one worse than the other?
What product (active ingredient) would you recommend to control mites?
Thanks,
Martin
