due to more moisture and dampness inside a greenhouse or hoophouse, when do most of you who use them begin spraying the plants with daconil or fungicides. with the plants so young, i don't want to spray too early, but at the same time, i wouldn't want to see early powdery mildew either. all thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated. thanks, shazzy

The growth in a closed environment like a greenhouse & the higher than normal temperatures can spell real trouble. I would recommend starting with adequate ventilation to control disease before fungicides.
Young lush growth isn't ready for fungi's yet. Right now the entire plant is even more sensitive to spray injury than the last 12" will be in July. And most folks avoid spraying those last 3 leaves or so to avoid injury.
Personally we don't start fungi's until late June or early July depending on the weather.
I know it's a pain in the butt, but we've been manually removing the huts every morning & dancing around the thunderstorms etc to get them covered in time for evening.
Having a friendly neighbor who doesn't work can be a real plus this time of year. Cell phones are not optional any more. LOL

You are quite right Tremor. I called the wife at lunch from work to ask her to flip the hoop houses back over the plants. Just ahead of a nasty thunderstorm. They were safe and sound as the heavy rain passed. Eric

Despite my advice not to in another posting ...I have begun light, 1/2 strength foliar applications of Daconil/Bravo/Echo + permethrin. My plants are growing so fast I felt it wise to be preventative.
