i have two thoughts on this, first is that after you have gotten your first year behind you and learned many lessons (we all did and still do) i believe that you will have gained valuable experience that will assist you in growing AGs. the second thought is that you may want to see how this seed does this year. of course, if i had a 1458 i might have planted in the hope that it would be a good one. best of luck!

Keith...you've got enough plants out to learn from now. I'd wait, see how it does this year for other growers, learn from all the things that are gonna happen, and use it next year when you're a better grower. Don't take on more that you can handle..and you'll find anything over a couple is quite a job!
Just my 2 cents, good luck buddy....Kyle

Keith, Well I don't know what your climate is like in .Va. What is the date there to set plants outside, or start from seed, May 10 is the date here in Mn. Myself, I would be temted to "accidently" till up the spot behind the corn crib...and GO FOR IT, good sense would tell me not to, that I have enough in the ground, but it may not stop me!HeHe. So, You have a dilemia my friend, maybe ifin Ya hang on to it and we BOTH have a good year WITH THE 747.2, you'll feel less attracted to the 1458 and send one to your ole buddy BUMPY!!(YOU DID SAY "SEEDS"(PLURAL)DIDN'T YOU)!!lol

Hi Keith,
In your area it would probably be fine to get it started this late. Hot summer days and warm summer nights will get it caught up in no time. I know of a number of Ohio growers who don't start until mid May anyway becuase of the chance of a late frost. That being said, I would recommend going with what you have started now and give them your best effort and learn from that. Those seeds will still be viable next year unless you store them in your car. Next spring you'll be ready to rip with those seeds and not burnt out with a project where you might feel like you have bitten off more than you can chew.

You have nothing to worry about. I started my seeds on May 14th last season and had plenty of time to hit 1029 and 970...this in a cool and very wet NY last season. My guess is I could start as late as June 1st (assuming september is good) and still have a shot at a big one. Alan
