Hello everyone!! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone, because of this site my pumkin plants are bigger and stronger then last year, But I may have a problem. One of my 880 Bortner seedlings has begun to grow the first true leaves, I hope i word this correctly so everyone can understand what I mean. OK...When the first true leaf started to appear I noticed that there was two growing out at one time, both are opposite each other though..Does this mean the plant has a good chance of double vining?? My second year at this so please all you veterns drop me a message on this subject... Thanks very much!!

I think you are confusing the codyledon leaves with the first true leaf. The first green to apear will be these "twin" codyledon leaves that are actually the two inner halves of the seed. The next leaf to appear is the first "true" leaf, actually the third green leaf to appear.

No newbee I am aware of the difference betweem the cotyledones and the true leaves..out of all my plants i have going only the one is doing this...BTW... Any im growing your 451.8.. cotyledones came out looking pretty rough but the first true leave looks great..

I have had several plants double like that on me out of the gate. I would let it go a while and see what it does, and in the mean time start a back up plant and set it in the same patch/cloch as the 880 that way if it does mutate further you have the option of culling and not have a wasted site. I have had sucess in pruning off one of the "twins" at an early stage and the plant actually pulled out of it (for the most part) after it started to vine.

I was just going to post the same question. I have gotten a seedling with double first true leafs. It also started with the next leafs but I pinched them off. Good luck with your plant Buddy.
